So here we are, day 1 of our journey to a happier, healthier lifestyle. It also signifies the start of our new blog together. I read somewhere that if you write something down, you are more likely to achieve it. So here it is, me and James are going to start leading a healthier lifestyle. We are going to eat better, drink more water and exercise more. There I’ve said it, it’s written down for all to see so that makes us accountable.
Research also suggests that people are more successful in swapping bad habits for good ones if their partner makes a change as well. It makes sense really, no-one wants to be eating their nutritionally balanced vegan salad, whilst they’re other half scoffs down a pizza. The smell alone could cause me to fall off the wagon.
Doing this as a couple has so many benefits. We can support and encourage each other, and steer the other away from temptation when it should rear it’s ugly head. It also helps lesson the load with meal planning, shopping and getting organised which is often the key to sticking to anything.
It will also encourage us to get out and exercise more as a family: bike rides, long walks, family sports days will benefit us all including the dog.
We are not following ‘a plan’ and there are no quick fixes here. We simply want to live healthier. That means not eating rubbish, cutting down on processed foods refined sugar and alcohol. Eating more fresh fruit and veg, drinking more water and exercising more. The main aim is to try and improve our health, but are hoping that a welcome side effect will be weight loss although that’s not the main reason behind all this.
So today has been mainly spent weighing and measuring ourselves, meal planning and shopping lists constructed ready to start. Tomorrow. When the hangover wears off!
