I have been having smoothies for breakfast for several years now. I like the fact that they are quick and easy to prepare, and portable as I often have no time in the mornings! Recently I have spent a lot of time looking at foods and nutrition that can give us the best possible start to the day, and have come up with this supercharged green smoothie recipe.
Here are some of the benefits of my supercharged green smoothie *
Coconut water- low calorie and no fat, as well as being a good source of potassium.
Banana- loaded with lots of nutrients including iron and potassium as well as being a good source of fibre.
Manuka Honey- Manuka honey is expensive but in my opinion worth every penny. It is known to have antibiotic like effect. I have used it many times as a Vet on wounds and skin sores and seen first hand the beneficial healing proprieties of it. Including it in your diet is supposed to improve gut health, boost energy and is great for your skin.
Chia seeds- Chia is the highest combined plant source of omega-3, fibre and protein.
Matcha tea- powdered Organic Matcha green Tea is used for it’s anti-oxidant properties. High in fibre, protein, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium and Zinc.
Spinach- Spinach is full of vitamins and minerals and the health benefits of including it in your diet every day are endless.
My Supercharged Green Smoothie
You Will Need:
- 400ml coconut water
- 1 banana
- 1 tsp Manuka honey
- 1 tbsp Chia seeds
- 1/2 tsp Matcha tea powder
- Handful of baby spinach
How to do it:
This is a really really simple recipe, and literally takes a minute to prepare! I love my Breville Blend Active, and I think I’ve used it everyday since I got it a few years ago. It is also a really affordable blender, meaning smoothies for breakfast is a possibility for everyone. Obviously you can adapt this recipe to use other blenders.
- Pour the coconut water into one of the Blend Active flasks (they have measurements on the side)
- Break the banana into chunks and add to the flask
- Add the Manuka honey, Chia seeds and Matcha tea powder
- Fill the rest of the flask with Spinach to the top packing it down slightly and screw on the bladed cap
- Attach to the blender, and blend until smooth
And that’s it! It really is that simple. Enjoy!
I find this green smoothie gives me a boost and helps me tackle the busy day ahead. A good start to the day puts in me in a good frame of mind, and I am less likely to snack on rubbish if I’ve had a healthy start.
